Noise insulation scheme called for in Perth

July 03, 2014 has reported (30/06/2014) on renewed calls for a noise insulation scheme as Perth Airport plans to build a third runway.

Since flight paths were changed in 2008, the Federal Member for Swan, Steve Irons, has been lobbying for better noise abatement measures.

He highlighted that if passenger levies were introduced to cover the construction costs, it could provide a chance to develop a noise insulation scheme similar to ones operating in Sydney and Adelaide.

Mr Irons also commented that a decibel noise contour system was a better test to see if residents are eligible for insulation rather than the outdated "ANEF noise" system which forecasts noise rather than measures it.

Authorities said that providing home insulation to dwellings around Sydney Airport cost around $60,000 for each house.
