Knauf Insulation has become a principal partner of CitySmart, the Brisbane City Council’s sustainability agency which aims to help Brisbane-based businesses and residents realise a more sustainable future.

Sustainability is synonymous with Knauf Insulation’s business practices. It’s widely accepted that buildings account for over 40 per cent of the world’s energy use and insulation can play an important role in reducing this as well the resulting carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels to heat and cool them.

Ravi Chandra, General Manager for Public Affairs at Knauf Insulation said: “Partnering with CitySmart was a natural choice for Knauf Insulation. The aims of the agency are aligned with ours in terms of ensuring a sustainable future and promoting energy efficiency.

At Knauf Insulation we are pleased to be at the forefront of energy efficiency in buildings through increased levels of thermal insulation. Knauf Insulation’s products have been specified for some iconic buildings around the world such as UK retailer Mark and Spencer’s most sustainable store to Ferrari World in Germany.

In 2009 Knauf Insulation introduced Australia to a revolutionary insulation product, Earthwool®, which contains no added formaldehyde, phenols or artificial colours. This industry leading product is made using recycled glass and with ECOSE® Technology, a new binder based on rapidly renewable materials instead of petro-based chemicals.

Our compression packaging also allows us to fit more insulation per pack meaning less deliveries and transport emissions.”

Since it began operations in 2010, CitySmart has grown with a corporate partner network of 40 leading companies and projects with a commercial value of over $300 million. Corporate partners include Rio Tinto, Baulderstone, Thiess, Energex, Energy Australia, GE and media partner Channel Seven.

Corporate partnerships, like the new one with Knauf Insulation, are at the heart of what CitySmart does,” said CitySmart Chairman Jim McKnoulty.

The reality is that for cities like Brisbane to meet the needs of a growing population, they will need to form partnerships with industry to deliver more, with fewer resources and CitySmart is the ideal organisation to broker those relationships and get commercial and sustainability outcomes.”

Knauf Insulation’s partnership with CitySmart is testament to the Company’s commitments to Australia, which are to supply a high quality product backed by excellent customer service and to help Australians achieve and enjoy the benefits of energy efficient buildings and help reduce their environmental impact.
