KNAUF INSULATION TO CLAIM COMPENSATION FOR LOSSES DUE TO BOTCHED HOME INSULATION PROGRAM
Further to recent media coverage, following the rejection of Knauf Insulation’s submission under the provisions of the Commonwealth Scheme for Detriment caused by Defective Administration, Knauf Insulation is now in the process of preparing a civil claim against the Commonwealth for losses due to misleading statements made by the Commonwealth in relation to the HIP. Knauf Insulation supports the investigation of claims that the Commonwealth was aware that the HIP would be cancelled early however induced the industry to continue with its efforts to honour the Rudd Government’s original commitment to insulate 2.7 million homes.
Knauf Insulation also supports the recommendations of the July 2010 Senate Enquiry for a Royal Commission into the failures of the HIP and considers the announcement this week from the Federal Opposition for a judicial review is a step in the right direction. The statement by the Leader of the Opposition that: “it is important to get to the bottom of this, to find out exactly what happened, exactly who was to blame in order to make sure that we never have anything like this happen again,” would assist in the restoration of confidence in a product that has a vital role in energy efficiency policy.
As a global market leader in the manufacture of insulation, Knauf Insulation is committed to increasing the comfort of living whilst reducing energy consumption in homes around the world. In Australia, Knauf Insulation is working with the Diamantina Shire Council and local residents of Birdsville to spearhead a campaign to restore public confidence in DIY home insulation and educate people about how to save on energy costs, stay safe and enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle at home. During August we worked with residents to insulate every viable property in Birdsville with Knauf Insulation Earthwool®for free. The Birdsville project aims to show how quick, easy and safe insulation is to install, particularly when using products like Knauf Insulation’s Earthwool and by following some basic safety guidelines. More information will be made available over the next few weeks.
