NEWS RELEASE
(BRISBANE, Queensland, 12 April 2010) - Knauf
Insulation has become the world’s first company to receive the
coveted Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold standard. The Gold
standard certificate was awarded to Knauf Insulation’s
revolutionary new mineral wool products made with ECOSE® Technology
and provides a strong endorsement of the enhanced environmental
performance of Knauf Insulation’s new ECOSE Technology product
range.
Speaking after the award Dr Roland Augustin, Director
Certification Chemical Safety at Eurofins said, "We commend Knauf
Insulation for leading the charge toward a more sustainable
future." Dr Augustin continued by explaining, "Knauf Insulation’s
unfaced glass mineral wool with ECOSE Technology product range has
met all of the defined requirements of Eurofins’ Indoor Air Comfort
Gold Standard and is therefore certified as an outstanding material
according to the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) Indoor Air
Quality emissions regulations"
"Knauf Insulation sets rigorous benchmarks for the sustainable
performance of its products and we are proud to be the first to
receive this coveted Gold Standard certificate", said Tony Robson,
CEO of Knauf Insulation. He continued, "Today we’re celebrating the
first part of our product range to become certified through this
programme. We intend, over time, to seek Eurofins certification for
our complete mineral wool product range."

The move towards greater energy efficiency in buildings is
expected to lead to buildings that are much more air tight and
which use significantly more insulation. This in turn is leading to
greater demands on products to achieve strict requirements related
to indoor air quality as well as a growth in the number of
mandatory and voluntary product regulations being set-up. With the
Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Certification programme combining the
criteria of mandatory and voluntary product regulation into one
trusted label, it provides manufactures and customers alike with a
consolidated view of the products performance in relation to indoor
air requirements.
Knauf Insulation’s launch of sustainable insulation products is
in line with Knauf Insulation’s long-held culture of environmental
stewardship and commitment to be at the forefront of
sustainability. "We are very pleased our mineral wool with ECOSE
Technology has been awarded the Eurofins’ Indoor Air Comfort Gold
Standard. It is the broadest standard available today and meets all
existing criteria with regards to Indoor Air Quality across
Europe", said David Ducarme, Group Technical Director of Knauf
Insulation. "This recognition by Eurofins underpins Knauf
Insulation’s efforts to provide customers with innovative products
which also meet the growing market demand for more sustainable
construction materials."
ECOSE Technology is protected by a number of global
patents. This revolutionary new binder technology is not only used
for mineral wool, but it offers similar benefits to other products
and industrial processes where resin-substitution would be an
advantage, such as wood based panels, abrasives and friction
materials. www.ecose-technology.com
About Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort GOLD
certificate
The Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort GOLD certificate matches for
example the requirements as set by the Finnish M1 certification,
the German Blue Angel "Low-Emission Thermal Insulation Material and
Suspended Ceilings for Use in Buildings" as well as the French
AFSSET scheme. As the certification process is based on a
continuous process of testing and auditing, it shows not only the
current status but also gives reassurance for future compliance as
the certified company undergoes a continuous testing and auditing
programme.
