Thefifthestate.com.au has reported (01/12/2016) on a Bunya development in Western Sydney that is delivering affordable rental housing.

The $37 million project comprises of 65 three and two bedroom homes.

John Nicolades, Chief executive of Bridge Housing, said that the organisation decided to specify higher than standard insulation because of the high temperatures experienced in the Western Sydney area.

Mr Nicolades hoped that the tenants would save on both energy and water costs thanks to sustainable initiatives such as higher than code insulation of R5 for ceiling insulation, rainwater storage and harvesting, solar PV and grey water.

Livable Housing Australia has given around 60 per cent of the homes a Silver standard for liveability.

The homes were tenanted to 250 people, 150 of them children.
